2026 “SUEP Cup” “Belt and Road” International Speech Contest



The 2026 SUEP Cup Belt and Road International Speech Contest will be held on July 10, 2026 at Shanghai University of Electric Power.

This contest is designed primarily for the participants of this year's summer program. In addition, international students currently enrolled at Shanghai University of Electric Power are also cordially invited to participate.

This is a unique opportunity for cross-cultural dialogue on energy and sustainability, bringing together diverse perspectives from around the world.

Green Energy, Global Synergy:

AI-Powered Dual-Carbon and Smart Energy along the Belt and Road

—— From Technological Innovation to Cross-Cultural Dialogue

Format: Impromptu Speaking

Participants draw one topic the day before speaking. Topics include:

• AI and the future of smart energy systems

• Renewable energy and sustainable lifestyles across cultures

• Energy equity: ensuring no one is left behind in the green transition

• Traditional wisdom and modern solutions for environmental challenges

• Bridging cultures through green innovation and cooperation

• Young people's role in shaping a low-carbon future

• Building cross-cultural understanding through shared environmental goals

Speech Duration: 3-5 Minutes (strictly enforced)

The impromptu format is designed to test contestants' knowledge, critical thinking, cross-cultural awareness, and on-the-spot speaking skills regarding energy transition, sustainability, and international collaboration.


Eligibility:

The contest is open to:

• All the summer program participants.

• International students currently enrolled at Shanghai University of Electric Power.

General Rules:

• Speech language is English. 

• No pictures or video recordings are permitted during any contestant’s presentation.

• The speech must be strictly 3-5 minutes in length.

• The speech will be marked on the basis of CONTENT (40%), LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY (40%), ORIGINALITY (15%) and TIME MANAGEMENT (5%). 


Prizes:

Every participant will receive a certificate of participation in recognition of their engagement and contribution to this international dialogue. Non-cash prizes will be awarded to all prize winners. The distribution is as follows:

• Grand Prize: certificate and non-cash prizes (1 person)

• First Prize: certificate and non-cash prizes (5 persons)

• Second Prize: certificate and non-cash prizes (10 persons)

• Third Prize: certificate and non-cash prizes (All other contestants)
